The DEADlift

The DEADlift. Yes. That's right. That's what I'm posting on.

Just the name evokes curiousity. No? Don't think so? Well, stop pretending. How many people out there know what a deadlift is? I know. Cos I work out. (Sidenote: Hahaha. If working out means 15 workouts in 3 years, then yes, I do workout). Anywhooo....

The deadlift is considered the most wonderful exercise for the back. It's supposed to target the back and train all the muscles in the back in a way no other exercise can. All that is good, but that can't be the reason  why I'm so fascinated by it. Can it?

I've done the deadlift. Twice in my entire life. All in my thirties. All as I'm trying to resurrect my workouts. I've suffered from back pain for the last few years. So have never had the courage to try the deadlift. What if I injure my back seriously? I mean, it's called the DEADlift...maybe for a reason?

Anyways, I'm not sure what compelled me to do it a month ago. But I thought, "what the hell, lemme give this a shot". I took an empty barbell and did a few deadlifts. It didn't seem so bad. I did a couple of sets and left the gym totally pumped about my wonderful achievement. Within twenty four hours, I fell sick. Down n out.

My illness was not related to the workout. I know that, somewhere deep within. But it just added to the mystique and myth of the DEADlift. I've given the deadlift another shot. Did the same thing again. This time, I survived. Can't wait for the next workout. Will I be able to do the exercise with more weight? Will I finally conquer the DEADlift?
